The Planning Process

The proposed amendments have been under development for some time, and you may have participated in previous engagement sessions held in November 2021, March 2022, or a public hearing in July 2022. Council has given first and second reading to the Hazard Conditions (Steep Slope) Development Permit Guidelines Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 3869, 2022.

The additional information sessions are being held to make sure residents understand the proposed regulatory updates, including the exemptions. A second public hearing will be scheduled later in 2023. After the public hearing, Council may decide to proceed to third reading and adoption of the amendment bylaw.

Phase 1 – Technical review, data collection and research to prepare the amendment bylaw for 1st and 2nd reading including the first round of public engagement.

Phase 2 – Refining the amendment bylaw, additional public engagement, redoing 1st and 2nd reading and holding a public hearing.

Phase 3
– Conducting additional information sessions and holding a second public hearing.

Bylaw Amendment Adoption – Presenting the amendment bylaw to Council consideration for 3rd reading and adoption.
