Welcome to Get Involved Campbell River

The City of Campbell River is replacing its website (www.campbellriver.ca) and other sites that the City maintains. The new website must meet users' diverse needs, be current, accessible, and follow best practices. The City is seeking public feedback to help shape the future site. Feedback will help guide the development of the new site so that the solution meets the needs of Campbell River’s diverse users. Complete the website survey online or in person at City Hall, the Sportsplex or Community Centre. It is open and responses will be accepted until the end of the day on May 26, 2024.BackgroundThe City must have a means of providing accurate, reliable, and up-to-date information to the public. The website is one of the City’s key communication tools that allows community members and visitors to connect with the City and stay informed from any location at any time. Information and access to services such as license renewals, bill payments and planning and development services must be provided online in an accessible, optimal format.The City’s current website was launched in October 2013 and has now reached the end of its effective life. Accessibility requirements and technology advancements further the need to replace the City's aging site.This survey is one component of the engagement on the website replacement project and will help shape the new site that will benefit the City and the entire community. User testing, review of best practices from other municipal websites, and a current technology assessment are also taking place. Phase 3The City of Campbell River is in the final stage of updating its Master Transportation Plan (MTP) and invites residents to drop by the upcoming open house to review the document.Event details: <ul><li>When: Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. </li><li>Where: Maritime Heritage Centre (621 Island Hwy) </li><li>What: Open house to review the Draft Master Transportation Plan</li></ul>The Draft Plan includes priority infrastructure projects and policies, in six categories: walking and rolling; cycling; transit; streets and connections; parking and transportation demand management; and emerging mobility.For residents unable to make the open house, a survey will be available here and at City Hall, the Community Centre and the Sportsplex from April 30 to May 30, 2024.BC Transit representatives will also attend the open house to engage participants on future transit needs and priorities. This feedback will help BC Transit identify service gaps as they begin work on the Transit Future Action Plan for Campbell River. Feedback can also be submitted via an online survey at <a href="https://engage.bctransit.com">https://engage.bctransit.com</a> from April 29 to May 12, 2024Following the open house, and when all survey responses have been received, the City will review the feedback and finalize the draft MTP. In late Spring 2024, Council will receive the draft MTP for consideration.Project BackgroundThe Master Transportation Plan was last updated in 2012 and the City is currently updating it. This document reviews the future transportation needs of the community, alternate transportation choices, and the provision of multi modal transportation opportunities. The Plan will explore walking, cycling, transit and car use in Campbell River, with potential projects over the next 20 years.In addition to the MTP, a Dogwood Corridor Study looked at Dogwood Street, from the south end (Jubilee Parkway) to the north end (Highway 19A). The Study reviewed all major intersections and recommend short, medium and long term improvements for both operations and safety. No changes are planned for Dogwood Street and the recommendations are no longer being pursued.Planning ProcessThe updated Master Transportation Plan will encourage walking, cycling and transit use in order to build a community with less pollution, less congestion, healthier individuals, healthier communities, less reliance on fossil fuels and fewer collisions.The planning process will consist of three phases:Phase 1 - Collecting background research, including existing conditions, data collection and the first round of public consultation.Phase 2 &ndash; Refining vision, principles and goals including a prioritization of projects and costing.Phase 3 - Developing policy directions and drafting a plan.Plan Adoption - Presenting final plan to Council for adoption.The planning process involves ongoing engagement with the public, First Nations, community partners, a Project Advisory Team, City staff and Council at key stages of plan development.

Campbell River Master Transportation Plan

The City of Campbell River has received $10.4 million in funding from the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) to facilitate the construction of 282 new housing units between 2024 and2026. This funding will be used to implement seven key initiatives to rapidly increase the supply of housing, address barriers to development, and create more affordable housing stock. Growing Campbell River's housing supply with the Housing Accelerator Fund

The City of Campbell River is developing a micro market in Campbell River&rsquo;s downtown core.Engagement with the business community and residents for input on the design of the outdoor retail market took place in 2023.<a href="https://getinvolved.campbellriver.ca/39966/widgets/165978/documents/127283" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">View the What We Heard Report. </a>Project BackgroundThis is a new project investment with <a href="https://islandcoastaltrust.ca/">Island Coastal Economic Trust</a> and the Province of British Columbia that looks to increase local business vitality and stimulate visitor attraction and resident engagement.The micro market targets small and medium-sized businesses that are home or market-based and are looking to grow into a permanent retail location. The units will offer short-term, affordable lease rates to support entrepreneurs and artisans as they grow their businesses on a rotating basis and support them to get established in their first years of operation.The planning process involves ongoing engagement with the public, First Nations, community partners, a project team, City staff and Council at key stages of plan design.
