Latest Update: Continuing Engagement on the Official Community Plan

As part of the ongoing update to Campbell River’s Official Community Plan (OCP), the City is engaging with key interest holders to help shape the community’s future.

Current focus groups include participants from the development sector, housing agencies and service providers, and the local business community. The City is also connecting with organizations such as the Campbell River Environmental Committee (CREC), Greenways Land Trust, and Island Health to gather a wide range of perspectives.

Engagement with First Nations partners remains a top priority. The City has met with We Wai Kai and Homalco and is planning to connect with Wei Wai Kum in the near future.

These conversations are an important part of ensuring the updated OCP reflects the values and priorities of the entire community. The City is grateful to everyone who has contributed their time, expertise, and insights throughout this process.

Background

Did you know that Campbell River is home to around 35,000 residents? And in the next 20 years, the city’s population is expected to grow to around 42,000. It's crucial that we start planning now, so that we have the necessary infrastructure, parks, and amenities to support this growth.

The Official Community Plan (OCP) is our community's strategic vision for the future. It guides how we design neighbourhoods, move around the community, how land is used, and the amenities that the City provides. Essentially, it's a roadmap that builds on our strong foundations, guiding us toward an even brighter future for Campbell River.

The last comprehensive review of Campbell River’s OCP took place in 2012, with minor updates in 2015. Since that time, Campbell River has seen rapid growth and other changes that will make this OCP update timely and impactful for fulfilling the community’s priorities.

The OCP isn't just created by City staff and elected officials. It affects every single one of us who calls Campbell River home. We're counting on you, the amazing residents of Campbell River, to help us create a plan that reflects our shared values and collective goals.
