The City of Campbell River is updating its Official Community Plan, and we want you to be involved!

July Update:

The City is inviting community members to help shape the future of the community by attending upcoming pop-up events for the Official Community Plan (OCP) update.

Join us at these events:

CR Live Streets Event:

Wednesday, July 23, 2025 | 6:30 to 10 p.m. | Shoppers Row, Downtown

Campbell River Farmers' Market:

Sunday, July 27, 2025 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Spirit Square, Downtown

These informal events are drop-in style—no presentations, just City staff ready to chat, answer questions, walk you through ideas, and collect your feedback.

We’ll be sharing highlights from the spring 2025 community survey, which more than 660 of you took the time to complete! These results are summarized, alongside details on values, ideas, and priorities, in the What We Learned report, which is available on the project website.

Did you know that Campbell River is home to around 35,000 residents? And in the next 20 years, the city’s population is expected to grow to around 42,000. It's crucial that we start planning now, so that we have the necessary infrastructure, parks, and amenities to support this growth.

The Official Community Plan (OCP) is our community's strategic vision for the future. It guides how we design neighbourhoods, move around the community, how land is used, and the amenities that the City provides. Essentially, it's a roadmap that builds on our strong foundations, guiding us toward an even brighter future for Campbell River.

The last comprehensive review of Campbell River’s OCP took place in 2012, with minor updates in 2015. Since that time, Campbell River has seen rapid growth and other changes that will make this OCP update timely and impactful for fulfilling the community’s priorities.

Planning Process

The OCP update has been divided into 5 Phases:

Phase 1 | Background

Phase 2 | Vision and Policy Direction

Phase 3 | Draft Plan Development

Phase 4 | Plan Refinements

Phase 5 | Finalization

Feedback Opportunities

The OCP isn't just created by City staff and elected officials. It affects every single one of us who calls Campbell River home. We're counting on you, the amazing residents of Campbell River, to help us create a plan that reflects our shared values and collective goals, and you can start by taking the survey below!

There will be numerous opportunities to provide feedback and comments during this OCP update.
